Development of Evaluation Tools for Urban Function Accessibility

Developing tools for evaluating accessibility to urban functions by public transportation

A tool that evaluates the accessibility to urban functions by public transportation will be developed. This tool integrates findings from academic researches on accessibility evaluation with the standard format of operational data for public transportation, which has been becoming increasingly widespread in recent years. We aim to create an environment in which anyone can easily evaluate the accessibility with advanced indicators. The indicators previously required a high level of skill and efforts to calculate, thereby supporting further evolution of public transportation planning and policy design.

The system will be developed in the following order: evaluation of the level of public transportation service in the surrounding area, evaluation including routes and time spent in the area, evaluation including services other than fixed-route operations, and simulation of hypothetical environments. We will bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practice.
